  • There are two methods for carving this rooster:
    • A) Carving the whole shape of the rooster out of a bar of soap.
    • B) Carving the body, the comb and the legs of the rooster separately.
  • Following video shows the method A, and step by step tutorial shows the method B.
  • Can be used as soap for bathing or washing (remove the nail polish)
  • Difficulty: Intermediate (method A), Advanced (method B)

Instructions

1. Cut out the rooster templates.
Trace the rooster's shape onto the soap with a toothpick.
Note: if you use the method A, trace the whole shape of the rooster.

2. Cut out the rooster's shape a bit bigger than the outline you traced with a paring knife.
Then, cut off the excess soap along the outline with a carving knife.

3. Placing the template on the other side of the rooster, cut off the excess soap.

4. Round the edge of the head and shape the beak.

5. Draw the outlines of the red parts of the rooster's face (wattles, ears, earlobes) with a toothpick.

6. Carve the wattle, then carve the red part around the eye.

7. Repeat previous step for the other side.

8. Carve the beak.

9. Carve the zig-zag lines for hackles.

10. Carve two curved lines between the hackles.

11. Shape and smooth the body.

12. Draw the outlines of the wing, then carve narrow feathers.

13. Carve round feathers and long feathers.

14. Draw the feather patterns on the long feathers with the point of the knife. Repeat steps 12-14 for other side.

15. Make the tail thin.

16. Carve the small pointed feathers.

19. Shape the part between them.

22. Carve a circle for the eye to each side with a toothpick.

23. Using a piece of soap, cut out the shape of comb.

26. Make a groove in the head.

27. Attach the comb to the head. Apply a little water as needed.

30. Make a square hole in the bottom of the body.
Attach the legs. Apply a little water as needed.

31. Draw the eyes with nail polish.
